Ahead of Frank Sinatra’s centenary in 2015, Frank Sinatra Enterprises (FSE) was preparing a major program of initiatives to celebrate his life and career, including a documentary, tribute concert, coffee-table book, and commercial partnerships. 1966 Americas identified an opportunity to elevate the family’s photographic archive from supporting material into a distinct intellectual property asset. We developed a strategy to expand the collection with important images from celebrated photographers and archival sources, curated a fine-art photography collection for limited-edition archival prints, established an international exhibition program, and developed a large-format “SUMO” collector’s book. Together, these initiatives gave FSE greater control over the provenance, rights, presentation, licensing, and distribution of Sinatra’s photographic legacy — transforming the archive into a long-term commercial and cultural enterprise.
